Vision 2020—Repair/Protection Council

The concrete repair and protection industry developed a vision for its future, entitled “Vision 2020: A Vision for the Concrete Repair, Protection and Strengthening Industry.”  Subsequent “roadmapping” workshops supplemented this document; and these documents, the creation and maintenance of which were facilitated by the Strategic Development Council, outline a strategic and tactical plan to advance and improve the concrete repair, protection, and strengthening industry.

Recognizing that without the monitoring of specific activities and deadlines, adjustment as the plan unfolds, and celebration of accomplishments along the way, all the ideas, dreams, and sweat invested in this plan could sit idly on a shelf and gather dust—unless a proactive approach to its implementation is taken. Thus the first activity of the first goal states:

“Advances in the repair industry won’t be achieved by just one organization. The advances will require a worldwide effort involving many organizations. Closely coordinating the many organizations’ activities will eliminate duplication of effort, improve sharing of resources, coordinate projects to eliminate conflicting recommendations, and improve the education of industry members.”

At its May 2-3, 2006, session in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, the “Vision 2020 Repair/ Protection Council” was established as part of the first goal of Vision 2020. Seven of nine endorsing associations along with representatives of several companies met to form the council, which is intended to monitor and coordinate Vision 2020 initiatives and to identify and recommend assignments of needed documents, research, educational, and promotional programs.

In conjunction with the International Concrete Repair Institute’s leadership, the SDC served as the facilitator for the creation of an industry vision document for the concrete repair community titled Vision 2020. The SDC-led workshop rallied 100 leaders of the concrete repair and rehabilitation industry to discuss their collective vision.
A final document, incorporating comments from industry organizations and modifications from the on-going roadmapping sessions, was created.
