Concrete & Sustainability—Vision & Roadmap
Concrete’s Role in Sustainable Development
Members of the Strategic Development Council recognized “Concrete’s Role in Sustainable Development” as an “industry critical technology/issue.” The SDC envisions an opportunity
- to bring together diverse segments of the concrete industry in an effort to provide education and insight into the “green” movement;
- to understand the potential impact on and opportunities for the concrete industry;
- to identify a common vision for the concrete industry regarding sustainability, and
- to identify common industry goals.
The SDC is committed to developing an industry-wide vision and road-map that will guide actions and initiatives of the North American concrete industry in a coordinated and sustained manner. A proposed “Administrative Plan” outlines specific milestones envisioned and targeted by the SDC.
Beginning with the Concrete Summit on Sustainable Development held March 2007 (SDC Session #21), a vision statement and initial draft of goals was developed. A six-month process with workshops in San Diego and St. Louis are intended to validate the vision and goals and to develop a detailed roadmap.
