Thursday, April 26, 2012
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Our new Strategic Development Council (SDC) Chair Mike Schneider,
Baker Concrete Construction, will preside over his first SDC session
- the Spring 2012 session of SDC, which will feature topics of
industry interest – self-consolidating concrete (SCC), building
information modeling (BIM), “Green” (sustainability), repair (Vision
2020), and our newest industry critical technology -Cracking. Presentations
on these ICTs (industry critical technologies) will update members
on these and other SDC initiatives currently underway.
As SDC’s focus is ‘accelerating technology acceptance”, ACI Past President Terry Holland will “answer” the question, “Is it really that difficult to get new technology into the concrete industry?” This is an introduction into revising SDC’s working process – ATA (accelerating technology acceptance) developed in 2005. Past SDC Chair Claude Bedard will renew the SDC’s efforts to develop the strategies outlined in that report with the goal of building additional bridges with ACI and other standard developing organizations (SDOs) in pursuit of technologies to improve the concrete industry.
More detailed discussions on SCC will feature research into practical factors such as effects of transportation, temperature and air content; and considerations for formwork. The goal of “15 x 15” (15% use of SCC by 2015) will be the topic of a dedicated breakout session. Other group discussions will focus on the updating of Vision 2020 (A Vision for the Concrete Repair, Protection and Strengthening Industry) and outlining needs and goals for a ‘cracking’ ICT.
The SDC’s series of Technology Showcases will highlight interesting and new ideas and innovations that could impact the industry in the near and not so distant future. Showcases will reveal living repair materials, sustainable products and processes, and unique use of natural and by-product materials.
For those that have participated in SDC Sessions, networking and ‘ideation’ is a constant feature at SDC. We look forward to seeing representatives of our Member organizations there, and welcome those who are not members, but are interested in not only advancing, but accelerating technology acceptance!
