| Local Information
The city of Plymouth, MI, is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Detroit, approximately 20 minutes south of ACI headquarters in Farmington Hills, approximately 30 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport and approximately 15 minutes east of Ann Arbor. Plymouth has a small-town atmosphere with beautiful neighborhoods, spacious parks, and a vibrant downtown with a variety of shops and restaurants surrounding Kellogg Park. Downtown Plymouth is approximately 5 minutes from the Inn at St. John’s, where the Strategic Development Council meetings will be held.
The Henry Ford, a National Historic Landmark, (also known as the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, and more formally as the Edison Institute), in the Metro Detroit suburb of Dearborn, MI, approximately 30 minutes from Plymouth, is the nation's "largest indoor-outdoor history museum" complex. Greenfield Village has 240 acres (970,000 m²) of land of which only 90 acres (360,000 m²) are used for the attraction, the rest being forest, river, and extra pasture for the sheep and horses. The transportation system provides rides by horse-drawn omnibus, steam locomotive, a 1931 Model AA bus (one of about 15 left known to exist), and authentic Ford Model Ts. Steam locomotives in operation include the Torch Lake, an 1873 0-6-4 Mason Bogie, which is one of the oldest operating steam locomotives in the U.S., and the Edison, a 4-4-0.
Also note: Hallowe’en in Greenfield Village begins the weekend of October 8-10.
October 8-10, 2010 (Time slots are every 1/2 hour: 6:30 pm-9 pm Fridays & Saturdays; Sundays 6:30 pm - 8 pm.) Step back in time to a turn-of-the-twentieth century Hallowe’en. Follow an endless path of hand-carved jack-o-lanterns and meet colorful characters along the way. Feel the whoosh as the headless horseman rides by, banter with a clever witch, and make stops at several treat stations spread throughout Greenfield Village.
