Nuclear Standards/BIM/V2020 Repair
SDC Session #28 will focus on continuation of our BIM and V2020 initiatives as well as exploring the newest SDC initiative related to nuclear power plant construction in the U.S.
With demand for energy within the U.S. expected to double by 2050, the NRC has received applications for building 27 Gen III reactor plants, each requiring upwards of nearly 500,000 CY of concrete and 50,000 tons of resteel as part of each $10 billion Gen III plant. SDC has been tasked by ACI President Richard Stehly to assist in assuring proper and up-to-date ACI standards are available for design and construction by interfacing with NIST, DOE, and the NRC to open paths for funding and accelerating standards development.
SDC’s BIM initiative will continue with a roadmap for the SDC BIM team’s identification and implementation of specific tactics and actions to assure concrete design/construction can be efficiently and effectively integrated into BIM models. The road map will be based on the soon to be completed BIM Strategic Plan facilitated earlier this year by the SDC, which outlines steps to remove barriers for the accelerated implementation of interoperability standards.
Other presentations will provide an update on ACI activities regarding the EPA’s rule making on disposal of fly ash, potentials for nanotechnology in the concrete industry, and planning for workshops in 2011 to update the repair industry’s V2020.
Joe Sanders, chair of SDC’s Technology Management Committee, will highlight the changes to SDC’s approach to identifying industry critical technologies, managing SDC’s implementation teams, and using SDC’s newest, high-powered resource, the Technology Transfer Advisory Group (formerly the TAC Technology Transfer Committee).
As always, there will be interesting Technology Showcases, highlighting new and innovative equipment, materials, and applications that are/will be available to the concrete industry to assure its continued advancement and improvement.
Registration for the SDC meeting will open on August 6, 2010. An early registration discount will apply until September 24, 2010. After September 25, 2010, full registration fees will apply.
