THE CONCRETE INDUSTRY’S STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL SETS MEETING FOR THIS SPRING

Registration now open for SDC’s regular session to be held in Nashville, Tenn.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (March 16, 2009) - The concrete industry’s Strategic Development Council (SDC) has announced its upcoming Session 25 meeting this spring to discuss several issues and initiatives facing the concrete industry.

The SDC gathering will take place May 21-22, 2009, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. Topics to be discussed by SDC membership include:

  • a presentation from future American Concrete Institute (ACI) president Florian Barth on ACI’s commitment to sustainability;

  • working with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on a potentially multi-million dollar research program with the intent of developing an accepted protocol for testing various corrosion prevention and mitigation techniques;

  • a continued collaboration on Building Information Modeling (BIM), involving several software developers, with the goal of identifying potential useful software and software applications; and

  • four “Technology Showcases” featuring new technologies in the area of performance concrete.

The full agenda for the meeting can be found here: http://www.concretesdc.org/Meetings/session25/agenda.htm.

SDC membership consists of concrete industry leaders and exists to identify industry critical technologies and issues that affect the concrete community. The organization creates and implements various strategies that facilitate an efficient and effective transition into these progressive concrete technologies.

“SDC meetings are essential in bringing together the leaders in the concrete industry,” said Douglas Sordyl, managing director of SDC. “These meetings allow SDC members and non-members alike to be on the inside track of new concrete technologies, and to help eliminate the barriers that slow down the process of introducing these technologies into the marketplace. I would invite anyone who considers himself a leader in the industry to attend this meeting and see how SDC is helping to shape the future of the concrete industry.”

Registration is now open for Session 25 at www.concreteSDC.org.  Hotel reservations for the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, Gaylord’s flagship luxury hotel located on the banks of the Cumberland River in the heart of Nashville, can be made through the SDC Web site at www.concreteSDC.org or by calling 615-883-2211. Mention the SDC meeting and get a special negotiated rate. The hotel reservation cut-off date is April 20.

If you are not an SDC member, but are interested in attending or learning more, please contact Doug Sordyl at 248-848-3755.
